See’s Canyon, great apples in Cali

We have a local canyon called See’s Canyon that has a micro-climate well suited to many types of apples.  The combination of fertile loamy creek-bottom oak forest soils, and the cool nights with foggy conditions channeling in from the sea, and then the warm daytime temperatures make for apples that are excellently sweet as their respective varieties can be. They will also seem to want to burst with flavor and juice, they are so very crispy.

I found some web pages that are good sources of information on See’s Canyon. Remember, that See’s Canyon is comprised of a great many small farms and ranches… so if you are  travelling through the Central Coast of California in the late summer through early winter, do stop in at See’s canyon and spend half an hour leisurely driving up the canyon, you might see some farm stands you’ll want to buy some apples and vegetables. The time away from the freeway will be well spent, you’ll have the very best of apples, and the freshest of veggies, and be able to continue your trip with a happy belly and a relaxed mind.
