Gopher Snake Voodoo

‘Voodoo’

I’m not the one who’s so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins.
Never did I wanna be here again,
And I don’t remember why I came.

I’m always happy to see Gopher snakes and King snakes.  They are both snakes that eat rodents, without posing a personal danger to us.   The cactus can hide many dangers, and the most lethal here is the rattlesnake.

‘Old Home Place’

What have they done to the old home place
Why did they tear it down
And why did I leave the plow in the field
And look for a job in the town

Right about this time last year, as I bent down to pluck this weed from the cactus garden, I noticed there was a little rattlesnake curled up under it.  I put him in a bucket, and released him a ways away.

Yeah, rattle snakes are a bit of a worry for me.

‘Learn to be still’

There are so many contradictions
In all these messages we send
(we keep asking)
How do I get out of here
Where do I fit in?
