Rivenrock Gardens Cactus Blog

Accolades from a Cancer Survivor

We got a nice e-mail from a customer of ours… it was so nice we had to ask if we could reprint it… here is her letter….

Hello Everyone at RivenRock!
I just wanted to thank you for offering Edible Cactus at a price I can easily afford. I had been buying it from another online provider ( they only sold dehydrated, not fresh cactus) for three times the price prior to seeing your ad in a reptile magazine!!!
I started eating cactus almost three years ago. It all started when I was diagnosed with cancer. I was only twenty years old at the time and did not want to undergo the harsh chemotherapy treatments my doctor recommended. I chose to seek alternative treatment. I visited a holistic practitioner M.D. in Connecticut (two states away from where i live). He told me about the known health attributes of the nopales cactus and gave me reading materials about the numerous studies regarding the promising health benefits of cactus.
Every meal I ate included cactus from that point on…… Three months later I was cancer free! I never received any “traditional” treatment for my cancer. I simply took part in an herbal detox program and switched to a vegetarian diet which consists of about 50% cactus. I believe that something in this cactus really heals!
My grandmother who lives on the mashanatuck pequot Indian reservation in CT said that her friend who is a Cherokee Shaman also eats a diet primarily of Cactus and is in excellent health!
I now feed cactus pieces to my dogs and foster animals as a treat, and it is a main component of my iguana and bearded dragon’s diet.
I love cactus! I put it in bread, on pizza, in soup. on sandwiches, and anywhere else I can think of putting it! I even bake up a great cactus brownie!!!!!

thank you and keep the cactus coming!
Crystal

We don’t usually try to hype the health benefits of cactus…. we’re not medical researchers, but are instead cactus growers.. but we really enjoy getting letters from folks who like the cactus we grow… and hearing from the mouths of customers about the health benefits, we get even more stoked.

   Rock on, Rivenrock!
