On Commercial Quantities of Cactus

We got an e-mail from someone in Texas interested in growing cactus…
here is the e-mail I sent back…

Your best Texas source for leaves for growing fruit might be Texas A&M. They are among the top five cactus research people in the world.

If you decide to buy from us, and you are thinking of going commercial, I’d recommend the Lynnwood. It has a very heavy harvest of good quality fruit, although it is a bit spiny.

We don’t need a permit to ship to Texas. So all you pay is the leaf cost and actual shipping.

If you are looking to go commercial and want a lot of leaves, we offer discounts based on quantity. We can also sell based on weight at a greatly reduced rate, because then we just pick… if you order by the leaf, we like them to look better. But by the pound is cheaper, and we send you plantable leaves…. just they are not always so pretty. For the hobbyist planter, we like the leaves to be very attractive and pretty. But for planting a few hundred leaves, you can deal with less than pretty leaves in return for huge price discounts.  The Lynnwood would probably weigh a few lbs apiece on average, and we could probably get the price to $2.00 a lb if you get over 100 lbs. That would probably be thirty to forty leaves or so, plus you would pay the shipping.

  Thanks,

John
